Use Sample Swatches to Promote Crafts and Increase Sales
Unless customers are already familiar with the yarn, fabrics, or the other materials you use in your work, you may need to provide samples. Putting together a few swatches is a great way to help people envision the finished product, resulting in more sales!
Some yarns, especially the novelty types, look a lot different in a finished item than as yarn. Samples of the yarn alone may not have the impact you need. Why not give a sneak peek at the finished item by working up some small squares?
Gauge swatches are perfect for this. They usually measure 1 or 2 inches square. This is large enough to see the color and texture. Plain knit or crochet stitches show off the materials the best, IMO.
Make quick fabric swatches by cutting 2” by 2” squares and serging around the outer edge. This creates a professional, finished look. If you don’t have a serger, a tiny hem will prevent unravelling just as well. Trim all the loose threads or your squares will look sloppy.
